Make-up

You will need:

Simple cleanser, toner and moisturise.

Smashbox eye primer

Revolution Eat, Sleep, Make-up repeat palette

Method:

-Cleanse, tone and moisturise the skin using the Simple skin care range with cotton wool pads.

-Use Smashbox Eye Primer all over the eyelids and under the eyes.

-Apply Revolution blue eyeshadow in shade Sleep All Day from the Eat, Sleep, Make-up Repeat Palette over the eyelids using patting motions to apply and a medium sized eye shadow brush.

-Then apply Revolution eyeshadow in Rave All Night from the same palette to the outer half of the eyelids and blend in well.

-Apply Illamasqua Obsidian black eyeshadow from the Neutral Palette to the crease line and outer corner of the eyelids and blend in well.

- Apply Barry M Bold Waterproof eyeliner in Blue to the inner corners of the eyelids.

-Apply Maybelline Great Lash Mascara in Very Black to the top and bottom lash lines using disposable mascara wands.

-Fill in any gaps in the eyebrows using Rimmel Soft Khol eyeliner in Brown and Illamasqua Wolf brown eyeshadow from the Neutral Palette.

-If any eyeshdow has dropped down then use a brush to sweep it off the skin.

-Apply Illamasqua Matte Primer over the rest of the skin.

- Apply Kryolan Ultra Foundation in G177 over the face and neck using a foundation brush to apply and then a buffer brush to blend it in.

-Apply Illamasqua Translucent Loose Powder over the skin using a large round brush.

-Contour the cheekbones using Kryolan Glamour Glow Essence Palette in Natural Tan using a round brush.

-Highlight the top of the cheekbones and down the centre of the nose using Kryolan glamour glow essence palette in Pale Tan using a round brush.

-Apply Kryolan Lip Colour in LC008 over the lips using a small lip brush.

  

Hair

You Will Need:

Sectioning clips

Pin Tail comb

Paddle Brush

Brown Hair band

Clear hair elastic

Bun pins

Hair grips

Tresemme Hair serum

Tresemme Hairspray

Method:

-Brush the hair using a paddle brush.

-Brush the hair over to one side so that you can create a low ponytail at the side, on the left side of the model’s head.

-Use Tresemme Hair serum to smooth any flyaway hair.

-Secure the ponytail using a strong hair band that is the same colour as the models hair.

-Complete a five strand plait in the hair of the ponytail and secure at the bottom using a clear hair elastic.

-Wrap the plait around the hair band to create a bun making sure that you hide the hair band and the hair elastic.

-Secure the bun using bun pins and hairgrips, hiding the pins and grips as much as possible.

- Use the pintail comb to pull small pieces of hair out of the bun to create a softer finish.

-Use hairspray to tame any flyaway hair and to smooth the hair going into the ponytail.

Tricks of the trade/advert or editorial look

In our lesson we practiced aspects of make-up commonly used in the industry such as perfect skin and eyeliner.

I decided to do a look based on the make-up from some of the Miss Dior campaignes. Therefore I did a radient base with some contouring but mainly focusing on highlighting. In order to do this I used both liquid and powder highlighters. I also added some pink and grey tones to the eyes because they are the colours of the Miss Dior perfume bottle and I wanted to use the idea of the model and the product being like each other. This is similar to what Dior have done in their J'adore perfume advert where the model is wearing clothes that make her look similar to the perfume bottle. Also in this look I filled in the brows slightly to give them definition but kept a very natural shape as Dior usually do in their mae-p looks and I also applied a very soft and natural lipstick as this again is what Dior uses in their Miss Dior campaignes.

 I photographed the look in different lights to see how the light effected the look of the make-up. As can be seen some light and flash settings on the camera made the highlighter and colour of the eyeshadow stand out a lot more which I preferred as it showed more detail in the make-up.

One change I decided to make to the look was to add black liquid liner because although Dior does not often use a lot of eye products they do often use a thin line of eyeliner on the top lash line.

Paris Fashion Week: Dior

The make-up at the Dior fashion show was a bold statement black lip with the rest of the face being kept very pale. There was some mascara used on the eyelashes and a bit of black eyeliner used on the top lash line which tied in with the lip colour. The look was very strong and made the models look a bit unnatural as their skin was so pale and very cool in tone.

All of the outfits in the collection contained either black, white or both and so the make-up matched the clothes well to bring the overall looks together. Some of the outfits had bright colours in them and the contrast of these to the black and white of the make-up and the rest of the outfits made the colours seem even brighter.

The outfits above use black as their main colour and the styles of the dresses are very typical of Dior with a lot of high necklines and either short in length or past the knee.

Photography Lesson 2

In the lesson we learned about different lenses.

The lens that is already attached to the 550 cameras that we are given is a 18-55 focal lense. This lens zooms so you can be close to the object you are photographing or further away. The smaller the number the more close up to the object the photograph will appear. The higher the number the more of the subject will be in the photograph.

There are other types of lenses called prime lenses that do not zoom because they are made specifically for that focal length.

The 18-55 lens is lightweight, made of plastic and is cheap to make. The prime lenses are heavier, made of metal and more expensive to make.

There are also macro lenses for example the 60 mil macro lens and the 100 mil macro lens. The macro lenses can focus very close up and give a very detailed photograph, the normal prime lenses can’t focus as close up.

When you are using a macro lens you should use a tripod so that the camera does not shake. Also if you move the camera slightly then the camera will be on a completely different area of the face so using a tripod will make it easier to get the part of the face you want in the frame. Also it is normally easier to get the model to move slightly than to move the camera on the tripod to get exactly the area of the face you want in the frame.

If you ask the model to sit on a chair they will be able to stay still in the same position for longer than if they were standing.

You can connect the camera to a computer so that you can see the photographs you have taken in more detail to check that the right areas of the photographs are in focus, that the make-up looks good and also that there is no camera shake which there shouldn’t be if you used a tripod. To connect the camera to the computer you need to use a tether lead. The computer camera you need to use is Camera One. When you open capture one you need to make a new session, name it and store it in the pictures file of the computer. Make sure that you press on the camera icon at the top left of the screen which allows you to see what settings the camera is on, change the camera settings and take the photographs.

Then when you have finished taking photographs you need to drag the file your photographs are in onto a memory card or SD card. Then delete the photographs off the computer and empty the trash so that other people can’t see your photographs.
