Lottie Rollers, 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s hair 4th
February
We have used rollers in the past to create hairstyles
however this time we did hairstyles related to three different decades but with
slightly modern influences.
You will need:
heated rollers, very small, small, medium and large (white, yellow, blue and red)
sectioning clips
pintail comb
paddle brush hair spray
50’s:
For this look use either a side parting or have the fringe
going upwards and over.
Section off the hair at the front and make sure the section is an even width all the way down to behind the ears. In order to do this make sure you don’t section the hair into a point at the ears and look at the hairline and adjust the section accordingly.
Put rollers in the front section of the hair with the rollers going away from the parting on both sides of the parting. You can use blue/ medium sizes rollers to do this or you can use smaller rollers if you prefer having tight curls at the front.
Then put white and yellow/small rollers in the rest of the hair in a brickwork pattern.
When the rollers have fully cooled you can remove them.
Then use your fingers and a brush to dress out the curls into whatever shape and hairstyle that you want.
Finish the look with hairspray.
60’s:
Section off the hair at the front in the same way as the
1950’s hairstyle.
Also put blue/medium rollers in the front of the hair in the same way as the 1950’s method.
Then start putting blue or red/ medium or large rollers in the rest of the hair.
The first three rows of curls should have a roller in the middle horizontally and then a roller either side of it. The rollers at the side should be angled around the shape of the head.
Then use the blue or red rollers in the rest of the hair but this time use the brick work pattern when placing them in the hair.
Let the rollers cool and then take them out.
Use your fingers and a brush to dress out the curls and style the hair to create your chosen look.
Finish the look with hairspray.
70’s:
Put a centre parting into the hair and section off the front of the hair.
Place two blue rollers either side of the parting horizontally going away from the parting.
Then put blue or red rollers vertically in the front section of hair going away from the face.
Use red rollers horizontally at the top of the head to give heigh and do a few rows of these,
Then use the brick work pattern with either red or blue rollers in the rest of the hair.
Let the rollers cool completely before taking them out and use a brush or your fingers to break up the curls and style the hair how you want to.
Finish the look with hairspray.
Evaluation:
I chose to do the 1970's look and found placing the rollers in the hair quite straight forward as I had used this technique in the past. However I found dressing out the hairstyle more challenging as I found it difficult to manipulate the hair into the correct 1970's shape.
