Technical File- Beach Hair

Beach hair and texture

Lottie 25/2/15

Diffuser Method

You will need:

Paddle brush

salt spray

mousse

a diffusier attatchment for your hair dier

Wash the hair or wet it down using the water spray.

Apply plenty mousse and salt spray through the mid lengths and ends of the hair and brush the hair with a paddle brush.

Blast the hair with a hair dryer so that it is not completely wet.

Use a diffuser attatched to the hairdryer to dry the hair.

Put the hair in the diffusier and hold it near the scalp. Make sure the roots are completely dry before you move on to drying the rest of the hair.

You can hold the diffuser quite close to he scalp and in one place as long as the heat from the hairdrier is not too hot.

If the hair is very thin or damaged you may need to use a lower heat setting on the hair drier but you should still be able to use a high power setting.

Curling Method

You will need:

heat defense product

pin tail comb

Curling tongs

Apply heat defense product to the hair and brush the hair with a paddle brush.

Section the hair so that you can work on the hair at the bottom of the head.

Use a curling tong to curl the hair, curling large sections at a time. Use the tong upside down and wrap the hair around it like you would if you were using a curling wand. The reason you need to use a tong rather than a wand is because the wand gets smaller towards the end of the barrell where as the tong is the same width along the whole barrell.

The only times you would curl the hair in smaller sections would be if the hair was very short or very thin.

When curling the sections of hair, stop curling at least an intch before the end of the section of hair.

This will make the curls look more natural when the style is completed.

Hold the tong in place for -12 seconds then remove the tong and leave the section to cool.

You can do the curls in whichever direction you choose, towards the face, away from the face or a combinatiobn of the two, whichever looks the best for he style you want to create.

When the hair has had time to completely cool use your fingers to break up the curls to create a more relaxed, natural looking style.

Then rub the ends that were not curled to create texture and to make it look more natural.

The photographs on the top row are from when I just curled the hair and the photographs on the bottom row are after I broke the curls up slightly to make the look softer and appear more natural.

Twist Method

You will need:

heat defence products

paddle brush

pintail comb

hair straighteners

Apply heat defence product to the hair, brush it through and blast it with a hairdrier to make sure the
product is dry.

Section the hair and start with the hair at the bottom of the head. Take two sections and twist both sections.

Then twist both the twisted sections around each other and hold them at the bottom.

Then straighten the twisted hair. If there is a lot of product on the hair then gently straighten the hair untill the product has evaporated and then press down with the straighteners more firmly.

Let the hair cool and repeat the method untill all of the hair is twisted and straightened.

When all of the hair is completely cooled, unravel the twists and use yur fingers to break the twists
up.

Then rub the ends of the hair with your fingers to give them texture.

When you have created any of the three looks you can use them as a base for different hairstyles. For example you can put plaits of a chignon into the hair.

The photographs below show before and after I used the twisting method.

The photograph on the left is before I twisted the hair and the other two photographs are after.

I did half of the head using the twisting method and half using the curling method which can be seen in the photographs above.

Evaluation
I enjoyed creating these looks as once I got used to the methods it was quite straight forward to style the rest of the hair in the same way. I found curling the easiest method and I like the look it created as the hair did not go frizzy where as with the diffuser it did go a bit frizzy. The twisting method was the hardest to get used to as holding the sections of hair for the twists was a bit awkward at first.
